Deep Lake, Sun Lakes State Park in central Washington State : People who aren't from the Pacific Northwest are usually surprised to find that the middle of the State of Washington is very arid, as you see in these pictures. The Cascade Mountain Range that splits the state north to south separates the wet part (Western Washington including the Seattle metropolitan area) with Central and Eastern Washington. The mountains force warm, moist air currents from the Pacific Ocean up, causing them to cool and dump moisture. So by the time the air gets to the eastern side of the mountains, it is dry.

Sammamish River : The Sammamish River connects Lake Sammamish and Lake Washington, two of the larger lakes immediately east of Seattle.
